Sometimes part or all of the thyroid gland needs to be removed (called a thyroid lobectomy or total thyroidectomy). This can be due to thyroid cancer or possible cancer, or to treat an overactive thyroid (hyperthyroidism). Emily has completed specialist training in endocrine surgery including thyroid surgery.
Parathyroids are tiny glands usually sitting next to the thyroid in your neck. They control the calcium and phosphate levels in the body. Sometimes they are overactive and need removing. Emily has completed specialist training in endocrine surgery including parathyroid surgery.
